What is private weight management at Qrystal?

Our private weight management programme combines a registered pharmacist's clinical assessment with structured support and, where appropriate, prescription medication. We offer the latest evidence-based treatments — including GLP-1 receptor agonists such as Wegovy and Mounjaro — alongside lifestyle support that's been shown to make medications more effective long-term.

Every patient starts with a full clinical consultation: BMI and body measurements, blood pressure, medical history, and screening for conditions that affect treatment choice. From there we build a personalised plan — which may or may not involve medication. Our goal is to help you reach a healthy weight in a way you can sustain.

You don't need a GP referral, and we work confidentially. With your consent, we share your treatment plan with your GP so your records stay joined up.

Who is the programme for?

Eligibility for medication-based weight management depends on your BMI and any existing health conditions, in line with NICE guidance and the relevant licensing terms.

  • Adults aged 18 and over
  • BMI of 30 or higher (obesity)
  • BMI of 27.5 or higher with a weight-related condition (e.g. type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnoea)
  • Patients who have tried lifestyle changes and want clinical support

You're not eligible if:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding patients
  • History of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN-2 (for GLP-1 medications)
  • Severe gastrointestinal disease

Your weight management journey

01

Initial consultation

Free 30-minute assessment covering medical history, BMI, blood pressure, lifestyle, and goals. We'll explain treatment options including any medication you may be eligible for.

02

Health checks and bloods

Where appropriate, we order private blood tests (HbA1c, thyroid, lipids) before starting treatment to make sure medications are right for you.

03

Personalised plan

Together we agree the right combination of lifestyle support and, if appropriate, prescription medication — typically a GLP-1 such as Wegovy or Mounjaro.

04

Medication, if appropriate

If a prescription is right, we dispense it the same visit and walk you through how to use it (most GLP-1s are weekly self-injections). We also schedule your first review.

05

Monthly reviews

Monthly check-ins to track progress, manage side effects, and adjust your treatment. Most programmes run for 6-12 months, with a tapering plan to maintain your loss.

Weight management — frequently asked questions

What medications do you offer?

We offer the most established evidence-based options, including GLP-1 receptor agonists such as Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide), as well as Saxenda (liraglutide) and orlistat where appropriate. Your eligibility depends on your BMI, medical history, and any existing health conditions.

How quickly will I lose weight?

With clinician-led GLP-1 therapy and lifestyle support, most patients see steady progress over 3-6 months. Average weight loss with GLP-1s ranges from 10-20% of body weight at one year, depending on the medication and how well it's combined with lifestyle changes. Individual results vary.

How much does the programme cost?

Costs depend on the medication and the length of programme. Call us for a tailored quote — the initial consultation itself is free, so there's no cost to find out what's right for you.

Is the medication safe?

GLP-1s and other weight-management medications are MHRA-licensed and well-studied. Like any medication, they can cause side effects (most commonly nausea, particularly in the first weeks). We monitor you closely and adjust the dose to manage side effects.

What if the medication isn't working?

At each monthly review we assess your progress against expected milestones. If you're not responding, we may switch you to a different medication, adjust the dose, or recommend a different approach. The programme is yours — we adapt to you.

Will my GP know?

Only with your consent. Many patients prefer to keep their weight management private, but we recommend sharing with your GP for joined-up care — especially if you're on other medications.

What if I have type 2 diabetes?

GLP-1s are particularly effective for patients with type 2 diabetes, and several are MHRA-licensed for both diabetes and weight management. We work alongside your diabetes team to make sure your treatment is coordinated.

What happens after the programme ends?

We help you transition off medication gradually, with continued lifestyle support and weight monitoring. Some patients stay on a maintenance dose long-term; others taper off completely. We'll plan this with you.
